Layer 2 Switch¹

The term “Layer 2” is being accepted from the Open System Interconnect (OSI) model (a reference model used for describing network communications). It denotes the procedure of using MAC addresses and devices over a LAN to segment a network. The layer 2 switch interconnects network at Layer 2, usually at the MAC sub-layer, and functions as bridges. Layer 2 switches are responsible for switching and transferring data to the MAC address of every network node.
